In a year with not that many great films, the King's Speech was a pleasant surprise. I went into this film not knowing much about the story but was greatly surprised. The whole cast is great, but the performances by Geoffrey Rush and especially Colin Firth take a simple story of a Duke who through a string of events becomes King and his stammer causes him a great fear of public speaking, especially since he will be the voice of the people during the war. The relationship between King George VI and his linguist teacher is a mix of adapting to the King's requests, respecting him but also trying to invoke his unorthodox methods while not overstepping on the other two. Definitely one of the years best.
