The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is based on the great novel by Carson McCullers a "tour de force" performance by Alan Arkin as the deaf mute and Sondra Locke playing the teen girl. It's the story of a kind young man who gives, gives, gives but never seems to receive in return. The film was extremely well praised when released with Alan Arkin and Sondra Locke getting Oscar Nominations. As the title indicates, this is a film of lonely people right down the line. The conclusion is devastating. This is a book I've read often and a film I've seen at least three times. It's a beautiful novel and film but ultimately very sad and weepy!
