    The Harvest

The Harvest is rather a quiet but sly thriller unlike what you will find in this genre which is all much appreciated. It takes a stance on extreme parenting, the parents being Samantha Morton as an over-powerful matriarch of sorts while her husband Michael Shannon (terrific actor) as a spineless ex nurse, both dealing with a sickly child. Peter Fonda and Leslie Lyles are the grand-parents. The cinematography by Richard Morrison (who did Fruitvale Station) gets a lot of credit for shooting to perfection and creating a mood and ambiance which enhances the film greatly. Is it possible that this rather unhealthy environment can change with the possibility of new neighbours, specifically a young girl? This is worth the view as it all lies in a realm of the plausible. It is a welcome addition to more unreal family situations that have been on film much too often. (Carrie, as an example)
