This film struck a very precise balance between kid's movie and adult thriller, which is difficult to achieve and which goes over extemely well. Dakota Blue shows us a vibrantly strong, sensible, likable little girl with loads of courage and smarts. The other members of the cast were good, Nicole Kidman most notably, who plays a sly sort of guardian who (figuratively) bewitches others with her beauty. This role could only have been pulled off with any serious merit by an actress as talented as she. The effects were excellent, the film never drags or becomes stupid (more clever by far than Stardust, for example), and there's a hint of magic and humour thrown in. I liked it a lot and recommend it to most.
