'The Front Page' from 1931 is a feature based on an acclaimed Broadway play of the same name. Lead actor Adolphe Menjou was Oscar nominated as best actor of '31 as was the picture itself as best movie of the year. In this cinematic version the film gets off on a slow start which put me off a bit. The restored print I saw was still not very good as the film is 85 years old, the sound not consistent throughout. It's a very dated production for which I did not particularly care. For a refreshing point of view on the story, nothing beats HIS GIRL FRIDAY (early forties) with Rosalind Russell playing Hildy, the lead that was done by Pat O'Brien in the original 1931 version.
