After a slow first half hour, this film improved inexorably in suspense and overall quality. I appreciated the fact that there was a minimal use of special effects, depending largely on a powerful performance and expressive face of Jennifer Carpenter as Emily Rose, and her acting enhanced the fright factor of the film more than any special effect ever could. Laura Linney and the ever-dependable Tom Wilkinson also provide strong and believeable performances.
