Scorcese is at the top of his game here and the pace of the movie really makes the 2 and a half hour running time fly by. Nicholson, Di Caprio, Damon and Baldwin are superb. Mark Wahlberg has a fairly one-note character, but gives it his best. The only reason I can't give it a higher rating is the finale seemed a bit rushed, as if they wanted to wrap things up without writing any scenes with more tension which might have added another 15 minutes to the movie. One of the actors smirks during a somber 21 gun salute which I am amazed they left in. The appearance of an actual rat on screen during the film seems a cheap joke unworthy of Mr. Scorcese. Otherwise a well done action-packed tour de force a good value, even at $12.
