    The Champ

A maudlin update of the King Vidor 1931 tearjerker which starred Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper, this version with Jon Voigt as the punch drunk, down on his luck boxer and Ricky Schroeder as the young son. It's a forgettable film overblown with cheap sentimentality. Trouble brews as ex-wife (Faye Dunaway) comes on the scene wanting custody of the child. A really bad remake of an old, revered classic.
