Wow, I had very low expectations for this one going in, but they did a terrific job of revisiting the franchise. I thought they stuck to the comics and tv cartoon a little better. The acting was really not bad at all. Casting Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Emma Stone helped a lot. This Garfield kid did very well for himself, easily on par with MacGuire's take on the hero. My only gripe is that despite solid efforts, neither of the love birds really come across as 17-year-olds. There is a little more focus on the drama and action scenes seemed short to me, but adequate. These Hollywood types are really figuring out the super hero formula. I thought the camera work was particularly strong, music was solid, writing was comic book-ish, writing and directing was just what it should be considering the characters have complex issues to deal with in the comic. Nicely done and a pleasant surprise!
