Woody Allen has created some memorable period pieces of the 20's and 30's America throughout his career and most have turned into a very positive experience including this film with jazz music which forms such a big part of Woody's life. The whole concept of the life and turmoil of a jazz guitarist's intimate life is quite the revelation, especially with knock-out performances by Sean Penn and a Samantha Morton of younger days. The film is funny but poignant as well, poignant enough to make you feel some definite raw emotions. Woody can be erratic with some of his writing, but this is a solid effort.
