Even if the acting from the young cast was unexpectedly satisfying, as audiences are entertained in way they haven't been since "Stand By Me," "The Gonnies," or "E. T.", and as good as the "mouth-dropping" train crash sequence was, the early appearance of the killer alien destroying everything in its path, and the involvement of some government-signed military organization made "Super 8" less mysterious, and ultimately leaving the film delivering only one-tenth of the magic "E. T." delivered. Yes, many viewers were touched by the story of "Super 8", however, the only thing that was captivating enough to connect with me was the incredibly relatable portrayal of young individuals making a movie with a super 8 camera, which was the obvious heart and soul of this disappointment.
