Terrance Davies films are often difficult to sit through according to many people, but I am not one of them. Yes, his films move slowly at times but he is always consciously making a point with the action at hand. This near saga from the earliest years of the 20th century, rural issues, WW I will change the world forever and it is good to see that our heroine in this film is not a defeated woman as in several of his other films. Quite a fascinating look at the notions of struggle and change in a very difficult period of world history.
