Unexpectedly amusing, and exceedingly engaging! “Source Code” could’ve effortlessly been an ineffectual thriller, however, Duncan Jones wanted something more that would not only entertain audiences, but also provoke them to think. This film’s trailer attracted numerous action-goers, which are moviegoers that just watch films for straight up action, and were tricked into watching this thought-provoking thrill-ride, and forces action-goers to actually think during an action picture. I’d say around half the viewers that have watched this had no intention of thinking during “Showtime” because the trailer showed just plain-out action, and suspense. Ben Ripley’s implausible screenplay took this film to an entirely different level. The film was made not only to impress people of its action, but also to electrify people of its deep and complicated idea, which was executed flawlessly. Sure the acting wasn’t stellar, which makes the connection between the characters and the audience not very strong, and the film as a whole was certainly rushed, which wasn’t a bad thing, “Source Code’s” main focus was just to provoke moviegoers that wish not to think, think. Yes the film was rushed, which wasn’t an appalling thing, however, for a complex and mystifying plot such as Source Code’s, the movie needed to be stretched to another 10-15 minutes for the audience to fully absorb the pictures idea. For example, Christopher Nolan generally makes his films at least over 2 hours excluding credits. He does this, since all of his films have inimitable ideas, so audiences can absorb the idea he created throughout the picture. All of Nolan’s films are masterpieces because he portrays that in every one of his films. “Source Code” needed to have that kind of power with the audience, which it didn’t, and for that it’s a forgettable, but truly electrifying thriller when watching it. This easily could’ve been a masterpiece, but I guess not everyone can create a film as powerful as Chris Nolan. All in all, “Source Code” is unnecessarily rushed, highly entertaining, and full of chills. There’s a majestic idea, and there’s sequel potential written all over it.
