I gave this one an 8 because there is never a dull moment and it kept me entertained throughout. Its strong point is the cinematography, its weakest point jarring sound effects that help to cover up an obscure plot. To us looking in life in the slums of India is horror beyond belief. To those born into it this is their everyday reality. Jamal's love for Latika woven throughout the story adds poignancy. But how did an unschooled child from the slums grow up to know the answers to the 20 million rupee questions? Did the PTSD with flashbacks to trauma help his mind dredge up the answers? Was he born a genius? Was he on a winning streak? Did he live a charmed life or was there something supernatural going on? We never find out the answer. It is a good entertaining movie and you learn a lot about India but not oscar worthy.
