Fritz Lang's film noir is perhaps unknown but a feature that has all the elements of 'great' noir. The story is outstanding with a young Joan Bennett giving one of her best performances. Edward G. Robinson is the older gentleman caught in a horrific scheme while Dan Duryea lives up to his reputation as one of the most dislikable antagonists in film. Joan Bennett's then husband Walter Wanger produced this neat thriller.
