    Safety Not Guaranteed

If there’s one thing that’s better than going to see a movie that you really really hope is going to be good, it’s inviting someone along with you and getting that satisfaction ten times over because you got to share the experience. That’s what happened to me when I went to see “Safety Not Guaranteed”; a movie I heard good things about, decided to check out with a friend and completely fell in love with. Once it gets going it will sweep you up and keep you entertained all the way through. The characters are rich and well written to the point that even the film's sub plots will have all of your attention. I found the main plot of the story to completely encompassing and I was eager to see what would happen next, when all of a sudden it would switch to another set of characters and instead of being disappointed that I wouldn’t see more of Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass (at least not for a little while) I was delighted to see more of Jake Johnson or Karan Soni’s stories. It's funny with just the right amount of bittersweet, and the premise of the film, is dynamite. I couldn’t figure out if the ad that kicks this plot into action was for real, a cry for help, the real deal or something completely different. Simply seeing the ad again fills me with excitement. WANTED: Someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You’ll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before, SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED. If you’re not sold on the movie from those lines alone, let me convince you. “Safety Guaranteed” is a wonderful film. It's full of surprises and it wraps itself up so perfectly you'll leave in a terrific mood. It’s one of those hidden gems that you can feel free to just pick up and watch anytime and it'll totally brighten up your day. (Theatrical version on the big screen, August 14, 2012)
