Whatever heinous acts one gets on the screen from ambush to a cold blooded murder occur in a Middle Aged Japan and seen through the eyes of its four main characters. This murder mystery from the Middle Ages is not an easy one to solve. Rashomon set so far back in middle time seems dated as it begins with its costume of antiquity, yet the story has a very modern view of reality. This is a story, we are urged to grasp visually and morally in multiple dimensions. Superficially a "courtroom drama", it exposes in the most direct manner a violent event in the isolated depths of a forest.
