Very uninspiring Greta Garbo film which she would play only if John Gilbert got the male lead. Gilbert got the part, but all was to no avail as this story of Sweden's Queen Cristina (apparently Lesbian) was poorly filmed with some of the worst ensemble acting of all time. The performances are wooden and most uninteresting. John Gilbert might have gone on to make another film before he was washed up in the talkies. He died of alcoholism when in his late thirties, 37 or 38. Some of these early talkies didn't seem to be well synchronized. Greta Garbo flops miserably except for the final scene when on board ship she stares out at the ocean and becomes almost mystic. When asked what she was thinking about when the scene was filmed, she answered: "Nothing."
