SPOILER ALERT: The basic premise of this film is that the future is unchangeable. The die is cast so to speak, and you cannot change fate, destiny,... Whatever; no matter what actions you take. As anyone who has looked both ways before crossing the street knows intuitively, one's actions in the present DO INDEED alter the future. There is nothing that is pre-ordained and unalterable, unless you believe in god or other fairy tales. Therefore, the movie is doomed to silliness from the very beginning. It isn't helped by the fact that some kind of priest tells the heroine that premonition is a form of godly retaliation for loss of faith. [...] Clearly, the producers decided early that the audience is too stupid to follow along, and needed a somewhat heavy-handed hint slammed into their collective craniums. The movie would have been much more watchable without the 2x4 up-side the head. Oddly enough, they aren't consistent with the theme. Since it would be inconvenient for her to be committed to a mental hospital, that entire eventuality is summarily forgotten. It would seem that SOME fates can be changed, but not others. Huh? It's a little frustrating to watch, also. Case in point: The protagonist spends the first half of the movie trying to catch up with what the audience already knows: that she is flipping through days of the week, but not chronologically. Wednesday is followed by Monday, which is followed by Saturday, etcetera. It doesn't seem to occur to her to even TRY to alter the eventuality of her husband's death. This isn't dramatic irony, it is boring. She blindly follows along, obediently doing every action, even though she knows what will result. By the time she figures it all out, the audience has Long gone for a pee and popcorn. FINALLY, she clues in to what is going on, and in the last 10 minutes she gallantly tries to save hubby from his terrible fate. Ooops, here comes pre-destiny to slice off the poor shmuck's head. And just so you don't think there's still hope, they blow up the car. All in all, this is a pointless jaunt down Thriller Lane, in an apparent attempt to cash in on the success of much more original films like Sixth Sense and déjà Vue. It didn't do it for me. By the looks of the other reviews, it didn't do it for a lot of people.
