I'm tempted to give this movie a 10. My wife and I were strongly anticipating this film but we don't get out often with 2 young kids. We both thought it was extremely well made. There's not much you can criticize in terms of writing, directing, camera work, music, acting, etc. All are seriously top notch! I have 2 little things which bug me: 1) the writer uses EVERY horrible scenario to push the message and it seems excessive as if all these things couldn't possibly happen to one person. 2) star power is a technique I rarely approve of. It isn't necessary to have these big names in the movie (3 musicians I might add) because they don't do much of anything except make you think: "hey I know who that is -they sure made him/her look different from the music videos". It's exceedingly common in the hip hop industry where nobody can just do their own songs. Instead, they always have to 'feature' someone else who is well known to somehow make the music cooler? I don't get it. But overall Precious really delivers a powerful message by looking deep into the life of an abused child. You don't expect things could get any worse and they do. Honestly the musicians do a fine job of acting. It's not very uplifting however so don't expect to feel good afterwards.
