A disturbingly intoxicating blend of violence, hallucinatory drugs, rock music, very obviously blurred sex roles and crime organizations mark Nickolas Roeg's film debut in 1970. The plot is complicated but outlandishly good. Suffice to say that a young, virile James Fox known as 'the enforcer' and an androgynous Mick Jaeger will rock your world. Apparently the film was so controversial in 1970, but still a success. It spurred then film critic John Simon to write: ' You don't have to be a drug addict, pederast, sado-masochist or nitwit to enjoy it, but being one or more of these things would help."
