Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid

Sam Peckinpah was a great storyteller as director and could do no wrong when filming in the western genre. This particular feature starring James Coburn and Chris Cristofferson relates historical events of the title's two outlaws, Pat eventually turning to the law. As with all Sam's output, the violence and sexuality are square in our faces but it never feels gratuitous. This is a solid film which leads one to wonder why it has not attained cult status like so many other Peckinpah films. Highly recommended especially for lovers of westerns.
