I went to see "Orphan" not knowing what to expect, and I must say this movie did not disappoint. It grabbed my attention immediately and kept me on tenterhooks the entire time. The storyline is original, thought-provoking, and undeniably creepy. Even though the film is slow-moving at first, it has a great elaborate plot. The suspense gradually builds, and leaves you shaking in your shoes, wondering what will surface next. I also thought the setting was appropriately fitting... bleak winter scenery seems to work well for movies of this genre. The directing and editing for this production is perfect too. As for the acting, it's fantastic. The performance of Isabelle Fuhrman as "Esther" is stellar and by far much scarier than Damien in the Omen She is able to change from evil to angelic at the drop of a hat. Her character is very believable, and you will be shocked out of your senses by what she does. The other cast members give a great all around performance as well. Oh, but brace yourself for the ending... it's the best part of the film. There's a surprise twist you won't see coming that will knock your socks off. Be forewarned, there is some graphic gore in this movie that may really disturb you, as well as some sexuality that's a little heavy. Also, I would have to say this is more of a psychological thiller than a horror, but judge for yourself. Overall, this was a fun ride. You won't soon forget dear sweet Esther.
