    Oh... Rosalinda!!

This MICHAEL POWELL English musical based on the operetta 'DIE FLEDERMAUS' (The Bat) by Strauss doesn't work well on film, not for me, in any case. I prefer viewing it on stage, yet have tired of it even in the Opera House due to too many viewings. Rosalinda refers to the principal 'heroine' of the piece. If you enjoy Michael Powell films and their excess such as "The Red Shoes", this operetta will be right up your alley. There is plenty of dialogue as in any operetta, yet the music, from its infectiously delightful prologue to all the arias, duets and ensembles can be quite beautiful, my favourite aria being Rosalinda's CZARDAS ( a hungarian patriot song of yearning) My low score, as indicated, is that I don't enjoy this type of material on screen!
