First of all I adore Jake G, the actor, in every film I've seen, except for The Prince of Persia which I caught at its Hollywood premiere. He's superb and an Academy Award has to come his way soon! Nightcrawler is this tremendously original idea for a film plot especially as we look at our MEDIA, our society, the constant craving for sensationalism revealing a pretty sick but very real contemporary humanity. It's great to see Renée Russo back on the screen. Jake's unlikable, a very under-rated word, character is so repellent you'd want to avoid him at all costs. He's all the more strange and creepy as he seems in total control as he goes around doing his nasty job, one that we see in our techno age all too often. The film really keeps you on edge. It's very dark, to my eyes a true dramatic thriller. I don't get the idea that some people call this a horror movie. It's not. It's an intense study of a very sick individual. I know L. A. quite well and considering that the film did not have a huge budget, they certainly photographed L. A. tremendously well and got the right feel of the city. I TRULY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MANY PERSONS WHO FOUND THIS MOVIE BORING, NOT QUITE REAL, TOO SLOW OR WHATEVER ELSE THEY'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT. I'M CONVINCED MANY GO INTO FILM AND THEN SHUT DOWN THEIR BRAIN AS THEIR FEW WORDS OF COMMENT, TO MY MIND, ARE TOTALLY ABSURD, WORTHLESS SNIPPETS AS THEY DON'T BACK ANYTHING THEY SAY TO PROVE THEIR POINT. This is one feature of Cinema Clock that irritates me a lot. However, I love writing my reviews on the very great number of movies I see. I think I might have an obsessive disorder of too much movie viewing. I'm rating the film even higher than originally planned as Renée Russo and Jake G. are so formidable in their roles.
