I almost walked out of this one; I was tired and the sub-titles where too fastidious for me. After battling fatigue (even loosing my contact lens in the theatre), I stayed, and I am glad I did. From now on, Asian films are to be reckoned with, because this one is an epoch movie, which isn’t that easy to realise. I didn't know much about the Japanese occupation of China during the 2nd world war, only that China lost many, many lives. Getting back to the movie, it has intrigue, explicit sex scenes and some gory action, but above all, it is a drama. I am glad I stayed... and I found my lens at the end of it all!
