Jodorowsky's Dune

I consider myself an above average cinéphile and it's perfectly wonderful to be this honest about a film maker, no matter how many or few think Jodorowsky is a great one. His last film The Dance of Reality was rated fairly highly by me to my now regret as I have mulled over the film over and over and have come to the conclusion that this is hardly a great film. It actually aggravates the hell out of me and annoys me that there were so many ideas lifted from Fellini and other film makers. As for DUNE, who knows exactly why it didn't come to fruition! Were I an actor, I certainly would not want to work with this director. Apparently he's a tremendous pain in the butt!!! I heard Jodorowsky in lecture at one point and he bored me stiff, everything he uttered sounded no better than pseudo-intellectual ' crap.' I've seen Dune and it has little appeal for me. If the film had been made why do an elite few think it would have been something in the nature of the second coming. (Because of the documentary! Please!) First off I don't think much of the book and its theme. Orson Welles had, by the time of filming, become the biggest ham of the silver screen and I have always detested M. J. I could care less that a few posters on Cinema Clock revere this so-called genius of world cinéma. Neither am I stupid nor naive enough to go on record to say Dune is not a documentary of some merit. I simply can't abide by Jodorowsky. It's that simple. It's a relief that he will probably never make another film considering his age!

I merely thank the Lord he makes so few films. His recent Dance of Reality was released 20 years after his last film, when I still happened to be a late teen. Jodorowsky's Dune is being screened on 2 nights at the Revue theatre in Toronto, the week of April 20, 2015. I just might be in the mood for some self-flagellation. If so I will re-see Dune once again!
