It's hard to review a movie such as I ORIGINS that tries to navigate the line of science and faith. How can you scientifically describe the soul? Well I ORIGINS starts with the premise that the eye is the window of the soul and then goes from there, tying the eye to the experiences associated with a past life. It tries to create a scientific argument that obviously goes nowhere. The movie would have been more convincing if science would not have been a part of it at all. Simply a movie dealing with the connection of the eyes to the soul. Regardless, it was interesting and certainly well plaid out but the script had too many wholes and went back and forth to a theory that didn't hold water. Despite being a scientist, I liked the faith arguments much more, especially as discussed in India towards the end of the movie and by his girlfriend played beautifully by Astrid throughout the first half of the movie. All in all, Astrid's character was more believable and convincing than Michael's, though not due to any fault of his own but to how the character was developed through the script. The goal was quite commendable, the execution was acceptable but not remarkable.
