What makes Dr. Seuss’ books, and this movie, so great is that they’re enjoyable to everyone on some level. On one level, they’re humorous and thoroughly enjoyable stories you just love to share, especially with kids, because it reminds you of when you were a kid and how you enjoyed Dr. Seuss. On another level, there is something deeper in these stories. When it comes to “Horton Hears a Who! ” never has a simple phrase like “A person’s a person no matter how small! ” carried so much weight. If only all animated movies carried such a great message. I was greatly impressed; what started off as typical animated fare turned into a hilarious yet heart-warming masterpiece of believing in yourself, never giving up, and always fighting for what you believe in. And that’s only some the things you can learn from this story. There is so much at stake in one little speck that you quickly begin to feel for Horton, especially as he faces off against the kangaroo and her monkey army. Don’t think of it as a kid’s cartoon but rather think of it as “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! ” book brought to life perfectly; with all its humor, rhyming, and wonder completely intact. If you loved the book, or even the original cartoon, then you’ll love the movie. It absolutely fantastically great!
