    Hereafter

For a great many films these days it seems to be all about the visual effects. I get it, Hollywood can do great things with CGI. Now get over it and give us some stories. The movie going experience does not work without all forms including comedy, horror, tragedy, documentary, thriller, drama, and action. Sometimes a film comes along with all these traits. The horror of the opening thrilling action sequence plays like a documentary. There are subtle comedic moments during this drama about tragedy and hope. Part of the film experience is learning something about yourself. Life is not always a fast pace. My hope is that more young people will give themselves a chance to see what some of the "slower" films can do for them. Turn off the phone/I-Pod and go for a walk to let the film sink in. It can be inspirational. I like Spiderman, Jackass, Ironman, Hangover etc... but movies have to be about more than just that.
