Best Harry Potter yet, by far. Very intense. Action/story packed. Kind of creepy at points. Very dark and always entertaining. All of the actors did a fantastic job. The only thing that I didn't really like was that other than Ralph Fiennes and Jason Isaacs, the bigger actors have very little screen time. I would have liked to see more of them, but from the storyline I suppose that couldn't have happened. I bet we'll see more of them in Part 2, which I am very stoked for. If you liked any of the other Potter films, specifically the last 2, this one is great! Measures up to Lord of the Rings in inventiveness and quality for a fantasy film. Amazing cinematography, as well.

Did we see the same film? I seriously beg to differ on the likeness of this movie compared to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They are like night and day and I need not point out which is day.

Really, where was the action? It was an intensely dark, plotless, meaningless, waste of time and money movie. Will definitely see the final one because I must but I do not think it was necessary to be exposed to this piece of cinematography drivel first as I sincerely doubt that it holds any enlightenment in regards to the final chapter.

I would agree with your review, and especially considering how much non-action there was at this stage in the book, the film did a great job. The audience is supposed to feel frustrated, helpless and a bit bored because the characters are feeling that way. That is the sign of a good movie - making us acknowledge what we are feeling and giving a direct connection to the movie. They covered a lot of ground in this film to prepare for the big finale in the last part. I would even agree with the Lord of the Rings comment, the scenery was breathtaking and the effects were really well done. I get really frustrated when non-Harry Potter fans watch this movie, hate it like they expected because they have not read/watched any others, and then give a review complaining about how much they did not understand. If you want to understand, at least watch the other films. Or else sit down, enjoy the film, and keep your negative review to yourself.

A book is a book. You read it and understand the assorted nuances. Movies are different in that they must appeal to a wider audience. Potter as a movie failed. Just for a moment suspend all other Potter movies... and watch this one. It is a complete failure. You have to understand that movies are a different medium... It is their responsibility to present entertainment for an audience who are possibly illiterate. And sadly mot of North Americans are. If someone had never heard of Harry Potter or read any of the books... then what are the positive features of this movie? None.

At the same time, movies like this cannot stand alone. I agree they should be enjoyable if you have not read the books, but any movie series is dependent on the other films for its depth. Just as in Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars, can the final films stand alone? Movies are a different medium and they contain a level of visual scope that books can only aspire to. But a series of seven like this is utterly unique and I think it was at least successful in engaging the audience if they watched the other six movies. And even if they hadn't, it still tells a story about loss and desperation that even the most "illiterate," as you say, would understand.
