I went to see the premiere of "Hairspray" and thought it was truly amazing. Really, this movie radiates with a lot of flamboyance and pizzazz. I'd say it's almost as good as the film Grease. Still, this remake of 'Hairspray" is nothing at all like John Water's original, but it's a very entertaining musical, one that has it's own unique style. The music in the movie is great, the dancing top-notch, and you can't help but marvel at the bright colored costumes, the hairdo's, and the stunning performances of an all star cast. The film clearly goes into the issue of race relations more than the original, but definitely has a humorous quality to it that makes you laugh out loud. For me, the real highlight of this production was getting to see John Trovolta impersonate a woman. I thought he was a riot and played his role exceptionally well. I'd say he stole the show. Of course I can't forget to mention the other talents, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, and Christopher Walken. They all performed with flying colors and showed off their great chemistry with one another. I especially liked Queen Latifah's song during the protest march toward the end of the movie. Overall, this flick is a whole lot of fun, and is perfect for both young and old. Go see it now and cheer up your day.
