    Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Gentleman Prefer Blondes is Howard Hawks semi-screwball comedy about ship board romances and the later more dramatic but funny scenes in Paris. Monroe is engaged to Tommy Noonan, a non entity and Russell locks horns with a detective on board ship. Monroe's insatiable desire for diamonds set the whole rollicking affair in gear. It's Monroe at her best and Jane Russell was formidable as well. The ending is like a fairy tale romance. The film came under fire as having very obvious gay overtones with the American Olympic team travelling on the same ship, going through their workouts in extremely tight short shots in all sots of suggestive anatomical movements, to be fair even when performing with Russell. But Gay Men of that era must have thought they died and went to heaven. A remarkable film.
