First off, this movie draws many parallels and is evidently inspired by the classic french novel Madame Bovary. To really grasp the nuances of the movie would certainly require a thorough read of the novel (or watch the movie adaptation), something I sadly failed to do but will certainly do soon. That said, the movie itself can be looked at as a nice romantic comedy with french accents and plays wonderfully in that regard. The french son (Neils Schneider) Gemma Arterton and Fabrice Luchini all played superbly well. Looking at the romance, I could have been fooled that these actors were real life lovers. It certainly was a great match. All in all the movie succeeds in what it strives to do, capturing an audience for a pleasant 1h30 film. Perhaps reading Madame Bovary may have given me more appreciation for some of the script though I will have to revise that after. Certainly a pleasant watch.
