First, allow me to share a strategy I employ: When you're at the cinema, DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILERS!!! All too often doing so completely ruins the film; best parts shown, plot given away, sometimes even the ending... Close your eyes, plug your ears and sing or talk quietly to yourself. As far as this movie is concerned, I am ambivalent. Penn was clearly the highlight. He shamelessly overacted his part, but to great effect. Don't expect any character development, and don't expect much of a story. The car chases were exciting, but not for the gripping tension created. Rather, it was because of the spectacle of seeing beautiful vintage automobiles apparently being horribly damaged. I'd love to know how they pulled off the effects. Fake classics? CGI? Most frustrating was the endless and pointless shootouts. The takeaway lesson from this flick is that suits and ties are somehow "automatic weapon repellant" since literally thousands of rounds are fired, yet none actually hit anybody. Ever. It was a fun film to see on a half-price evening, but I would have been annoyed if I'd shelled out full price to see it. I'd say wait until you can rent it, but does anyone do that anymore?
