Just got back from the Thursday night free Premiere. A lot of things didn't make any sense. Starting from the chess game that Jonathan Meyers plays with the Ambassador, how is it possible that a player that is improving on an old line from one of Fisher-Spassky's games, loses almost immediately on the stupidest beginner checkmate? The first 15 minutes are uninteresting, but when Travolta finally appears, the movie suddenly awakes, but shortly starts going south just as fast. Travolta's character is too far fetched, and way too cool in any situation. Maybe action movie fanatics will enjoy his "El Mariachi" style shoot-everyone-and-never-get-even-a-scratch, but the realism is totally not there. The action scenes are very good, but Travolta does constant acrobatics and his shaved head never even breaks a sweat. When ten guys attack him with baseball bats, nobody even gets in one hit. Meyers gets his white shirt splattered with blood and in the next scene the shirt looks freshly laundered, but then there is just a little stain when he gets home. I don't want to give away any of the plot. I just can't recommend this movie.
