Eastwood seems to struggle a little with the non-linear storytelling style, especially during the film's first half-hour or so. It feels like there are far too many characters to introduce the way he does; in a series of flashbacks and out of order sequences. But, if you can make it through that first 30 minutes, the payoffs are huge. The battle scenes are spectacular, the history lesson is rewarding, and the ending is one of the most heartwarming in recent memory..
