Epic

This movie was cute and fun like it says it's going to be, and the 3D effect is phenomenal. I actually found myself laughing at more of the silly jokes than lots of the kids in the theatre, which is surprising to me. And if it wasn't for a group of children with a single mom sitting directly behind me (last to enter the movie theatre always (90% of the time) sits directly behind me and either talks a lot, eats really loud and/or (usually and) kicks the seats in front of them), I'd have had a phenomenal time. As for being critical: The movie is fast-paced enough to keep kids engaged in the story, and the fantasy world has enough depth in both characters and content to almost make you forget that you are sitting through two 'coming of age' stories (which I normally find unbearable, but in this case were endurable) I noticed that the comedy in the movie was well placed and didn't seem desperate or 'try hard', and in only one scene seemed forced... I strongly recommend seeing it in 3d... As a final tip for adults without kids, go see the movie in the afternoon (to avoid school-going kids), AND go see the movie in the middle of the week when less people go (in Edmonton the tickets are cheaper on Tuesdays, so I go on wednesdays just to avoid crowds of seat-kicking nacho CHOMPERS)
