This was an atypical high school movie with much more to say than the usual feel-good BS (no Michele Pfeiffer here) It is very dark but also very real. It was very powerful, injecting subject matter in an indirect way, repeatedly and forcefully. I was rather impressed even if the ending was artistic in a film school way. If you have ever worked in the public school system, you will probably appreciate how authentic some of the scenarios are. I would love to give the movie a higher rating but alas, there is no hope for redemption offered here. It's a classic tragedy with a LOT of thought provoking, something that is often attempted but rarely achieved in film. Nicely done! Having said all that, you should not rush out to see it if you're looking for a nice, light, entertaining flick.
