This movie has its moments, and Kevin Bacon delivers an excellent performance. However, this movie suffers from writing and directing woes. There are holes in the storyline, holes in the plot development, and holes in the emotional fabric that this movie should have had to lead us on a gut-wrenching journey into revenge. Because of these numerous holes, we are left with a choppy gore revenge flick. OK, it was directed by James Wan (yup, of the SAW movies), but that doesn't mean we can't expect more story development to make us feel Kevin Bacon's loss more. After all, Sam Raimi went from the Evil Dead B-gore-horror flicks to develop some great storylines on the big screen. Kelly Preston was good, but underused. Her character needed to be more present and more developed. It's not a bad movie, and your heart skips a beat on more than one occasion, but it could and should have been so much better developed and directed, which would have made it that much better a movie experience. Because of that, I can't give this movie more than a 6/10, and that 6 is only because Kevin Bacon is great, even in a weak script.
