I think there was a little missing. Could not really get into the characters. The ape special effects were well done - but I don't think this is a reason to see a movie. The plot was also a little light and would have liked a little more explanation on how the apes became more sentient (apparently it had to do with what happened - but was not very clear) I think it's an ok movie but again lacked depth to put it above a 6.
