Great ensemble film. Very well directed, extremely well tied together, and great performance from the actors. Really forces you to think about racial discrimination, in a way some of us in Canada might have not been exposed to. I come from an European background (I was raised in France till I was 18, and while racism is a problem over there more than in Canada, the milieu I grew up in was diverse and tolerant enough such that I was exposed very little to racist behaviour) Yet when I look at the situation in the US that is presented to us through this movie, I am filled with sadness. Most of us know it's still present, yet we choose to ignore it or turn a blind eye, hoping the problem will go away or that we won't have to face it someday. Sometimes all it takes, is a movie like this to remind us. The director, Paul Haggis, doesn't preach to us. Rather, he paints a picture. Different situations and characters that intertwine, and leave us to think. And feel.
