We rented Cloverfield and really dug it. I wanted to see it in theaters but the poor reviews veered me away. Goes to show you can't trust other peoples' opinions. I can see what people are complaining about with the jerky camera action but that's the point here. The characters are young and not very deep but I like that they're reflecting a generation/culture. It is a perspective as good as any other and realistic because it's like what the average person might experience. The creatures looked great and the plot & direction beat a lot of high budget movies. The suspense is very well created even if some of the situations are pretty dumb (the whole cross-town rescue and the inclined building -oh and the girlfriend who was impaled and nearly dead getting up to sprint for her life) The movie's pace is like a bad dream where things don't necessarily make sense but the rush is super intense. Solid movie.
