Cloverfield

Cloverfield is a movie that I definitely will soon not forget. With all the buzz it's been generating, I've been anxiously awaiting to see it. Overall, it was a great flick from start to finish, despite the fact that I got a little motion sickness, owing to the shakiness of the camera work. I sympathize with anyone else who had the unfortunate experience of becoming ill as well. Though I understood why the director had to do it that way, to create the illusion that it was from a first person's point of view during a crisis. I don't know about you but if I was recording this event with my camera... there is no way I could keep it still for a moment, not when flaming boulders are flying at me or if a monster was chasing me! In my opinion I think the shakiness adds to the movie. If the camera didn't shake, then what would be the whole point of the film? Still, it might be a good idea to bring along your sick bag just in case. As for the previews with Cloverfield, I thought this was just another typical monster movie. After all how many Godzilla movies can you make? How many times can you show a giant lizard walking around New York and expect people to still be interested? Well this movie wasn't so much about the monster walking around the city, knocking buildings over, destroying main power sources and attacking bridges. No, it was more about a mass community of ordinary citizens experiencing a catastrophic event and how they react to it. This element makes it a completely new experience for movie goers. I must also give credit to the actors in this movie for doing a tremendous job. I wasn't familiar with any of them, but they were believable in exhibiting all their fears and anxieties. You could really easily imagine yourself being in their shoes. Oh, and the monster is awesome. It doesn't look like a giant lizard. It doesn't even resemble a dinosaur. Best way to describe it is a freakish alien. Looks totally unique from that of other monsters. Be forewarned though, some of the scenes in this movie are frightening, and graphically disturbing. In a nutshell, a very entertaining movie indeed. Don't miss this one, but go with an open mind, and you won't be disappointed.
