Contains Spoilers: This isn't the camp, cheesily suave smooth-talking Bond of the previous franchise. This is, instead, the Bond of the books. This is Ian Fleming's Bond. He is gritty, a little unpolished, subject to the occasional mistake, cynical and even a tiny bit vulnerable to displaying some (gasp! ) human traits. Therefore, there is no point in comparing the charmingly two-dimensional 'Camp Bonds' to this 'Literary Bond'. For all intents and purposes, this is an entirely new franchise. If it does well enough, presumably the producers will continue the pattern. My only complaints are: 1) Why go to the trouble of creating the literary Bond, only to "Dumb down" to suite American tastes by having him play Texas Hold 'Em instead of Baccarat? 2) This fellow is kind of funny looking. Sorry ladies, but a man's pectoral muscles are not supposed to be stuck up around his neck. 3) If the producers want this flavour of Bond, they really should re-think the idea of 'Q-type' gadgets. Ian Fleming's Bond would NOT have had, of all things, a defibrillator in the glove box. Either rely on gadgets as per the status quo, or preferably, don't have them at all. The 'real' Bond didn't NEED toys. It's worth a look, and the soundtrack is good. If you don't see it in the theatre, it is certainly worth making a point of renting when it comes out on DVD.
