Wow. Went to see the midnight first screening, and planned to leave early to be awake Friday. But my attention was riveted to the screen! The effects are stunning and one feels like an explorer. The only problem I did have was, as many others are saying, James Cameron isn't as good a writer as a director. He should have consulted some lit majors to bring the story to a more probing level. Some quick changes (i. e. a scene with Jake conquering the red avian species) would have made all the difference (given the aborignal culture more credence for revering this animal and respecting Jake for riding it) That said, there were some very powerful moments of not only visuals, but storytelling.
