Was hoping for a decent satire or at least some quirky entertainment along the lines of Zwigoff's previous offering "Ghost World" also written by graphic comic vet Daniel Clowes. Unfortunately this time their satire is weak, consisting mainly of the bashing of art school archetypal characters. This is fun for about twenty minutes, then gets old. The lead character is not very sympathetic and his acting skills not much better. John Malkovich is good as the self-absorbed and bitter art teacher but unfortunately the entire tone of the movie is too self-absorbed and bitter for you to care. Steve Buscemi is always good in a supporting role, doing what he does best, playing an angry self-absorbed character. Overall the best that can be said of this film is that there are worse movies you could rent but that's hardly enough to recommend this one.
