Judy Garland was supposed to play the musical lead in Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, but she was having trouble with Metro so MGM cast Betty Hutton, co-starring with Howard Keel. The musical shines because of all the great Berlin tunes and there is a definite likability to the film that Ethel Merman made famous on stage. All in all, the film version should have been a lot better considering the great material at hand and the production values.
