There really is nothing new about ANNABELLE though it is based on a true story and an investigation that was done by a famous husband and wife team who fought satanic forces. There have been tons of movies that deal with maleficent or demonic dolls. This is a very old theme in movies. So ANNABELLE did not offer me anything new except a lot more violence, blood and gore. What I know will get to most in the audience, old people if they choose to see such a film (most won't even bother) or older teens especially young ladies is the immense scale of that "horror of the damned" which is, in fact, incarnated in the so-called beautiful doll, Annabelle. More about that in a minute! I believe in powerful satanic forces which exist alongside the 'powers of good, the godly.' This statement is as true as true can be. So there is a basis for being completely creeped out. Personally the doll was frighteningly ugly + monstrous in my eyes which upped the idea of an anti-Christ. The one thing I truly enjoyed about the film was to see the great 3 time Oscar nominated actress, ALFRE WOODARD on the screen yet again. She had a small but crucial role in the 2013 ACADEMY AWARD WINNING FILM '12 years a Slave' which won the award just last March, 2014. I truly feel like giving the film a 1, 2 or 3, but will raise it to a respectable 5 as I sensed the film-makers were at least attempting to do their best with material that has been hashed and re-hashed over and over again.
