Genial silent film director D. W Griffith did not have much luck with the talkies. He only made a handful and none are deemed masterworks by any stretch of the imagination. This very early 'talkie' about ABRAHAM LINCOLN is rather heavy handed and clumsy though Walter Huston does what he can in the title role. Griffin would go on to direct only a few more talking pictures, but it seemed he had totally lost his touch with this new medium. He died during the forties not having made a film for a very long time. It's all very sad. His life would make a great bio-pic.
